Nacho Patrol was founded in 2008 after Danny Wolfers aka Legowelt bought an
old 70s wahwah pedal and started to
write some afro funk tracks with it. It was soon signed to Kindred
Spirits records who asked if Nacho Patrol could play
in the line up with Ethiopian Jazz legend Mulatu Astatke in his
Amsterdam show at Paradiso.
Danny brought together a rag-tag team of musicians who would be able to
present the Nacho Patrol sound in a
live band show:
Jimi Helenga
also known as Elektrovolt, a The Hague musician who is master of many
instruments (from synthesizer to
guitar to mediaval bagpipes!). Marc Alberto a jazz
saxophone master who studies jazz at the prestigious jazz school of
Maastricht/Aachen
and last but not least Martijn Hazelzet
on guitar who played Nacho Patrols ever lasting funky riffs and crazy
fuzz solos.
Sadly Martijn Hazelzet moved to the Island of Crete to start an olive
oil farm and become a professional golfer, leaving
the guitar parts to Jimi Helenga from now on.
